The retirement ends speculation that Europe's top-ranked horse would come to Santa Anita for the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic on Nov. 7. Sea the Stars, trained by John Oxx, won six Group 1 races. "He's had a long season and has been in regular fast work from March 3, with his final workout on Oct. 2," Oxx told Racingpost.com. "He's been in intensive training for seven months with only a three-week break after the Eclipse Stakes at the beginning of July. We feel it is unfair to keep him going any further given his unprecedented record of achievement in the last six months." Stud plans have not been finalized, Oxx was quoted as saying. |

Our concerns as fans aren't the same as those who are financially invested but damn it, they had to be fans of the sport at one time and they got to be fans based on what they saw at the track. |

The Green Monkey WAS far more valuable to the Breeding Game than the racing Game..In fact the connections should have in no unneccesary order..Never ran the colt....shot the agent....and retired him as a 2 year old...I have a hunch that down the line this guy will play a very important role in some future stars.He simply suk'd as a racehorse...Hard to keep any of these guys going over a 3 year period...Rachel and Zenyatta are both freaks.. |

It's a business. Plain and simple... They run for the money, they breed for the money, and we bet on it for the money, with money. It's all about the money... With the recent dramatic decline in sales, the forecast seems to call for a reversal of the rush to stud duty that has been the industry's calling card since the 80's. At the last few sales, many horses prices weren't even reaching the stud fee. There will be a drastic drop in stud fees (Pulpit already announced down from 80k to 60k) and the horses will stay at the track longer. But, they way that they breed these drug induced and genetically deformed pansy ponies, it may also lead to more breakdowns. Seems like most of them can only run about 7 times over a 18 month stretch. |
