and getting people worked up over absolutely nothing. Not saying that the state isn't in financial crisis but we all know when push comes to shove, this shit will be a bad memory as the three ringed circus continues on.

The house of cards that is the State of New York is collapsing. The unions, the special interests, millions of people and their spawn, and a whole host of other entities all rely on handouts to survive. The people are tapped out while more hands are out than hands working. The lefty Lib Dems in Albany increased 2009 spending by more that $10 BILLION while crushing the taxpayer (a dying breed) with more than $8 BILLION in increased taxes and fees. The 2009 budget from just 8 months ago is busted all to hell, BILLIONS in the hole, and worse is coming in 2010. I suppose we should all be happy that the bums, breeders, and slackers on the dole that produce nothing caught a 10% welfare increase this year (out of a promised and mandated 30%) and will not miss a check.

The state of NY is a mess, what else is new? Pole, I read the article, and did not see any mention of "THE UNIONS". Since when are they responsible for the turmoil within the state? :? When did they get handouts from the government?

No unions protect lazy people from losing their jobs..Not the way it was intended but like everything else the way it became..If it is not a union it is a race or gender or age...Apparently nobody needs to follow the old motto of a honest days work for an honest days pay if they are old young male female black white green yellow gay straight or ill

This may surprise some folks but the majority of unionized workers in this country now work for some level of BIG GOVERNMENT. And I catch a CWA pension.

Being a retired member (after almost 40 years) of a labor organization I can tell you from experience that 95% of the membership of most unions are hard working men,and women who go through at least five years of training, and earn every dime they make. The other 5% simply do not work on a regular basis, because no one wants them. John for someone who admits to deliberately screwing up a paint job to get out of work, you have a lot of nerve saying that unions make people lazy. As far as the price you get what you pay for, and more.

it was not John who cited the lazy workers protected by Unions it was me. No disrespect to you or to the union worker of yeateryear especially the Teamsters for which my dad was a delegate and a member for 60 years..The union creed was to represent the worker and to get a laborer an honest days wage for an honest days work. To protect the person from unscrupulous bosses and companies who never gave and extracted every last ounce of sewat from the worker without consideration for their retirement and their family..

That was than. Not now...

Today the union is there to collect 'dues" and make deals with organizations either through intimidation or through nepotism..It is no longer abaout the worker. Many states have gone right to work and union free..Walmart is a good example..Love em or not they treat their workers well..Small trucking companies have gone under due to labor union intimiidation. The entire system is perverse.

On one hand the Union stands behind their workers and in many cases that is just so they could lift their wallets. Look at baseballs players union...Would not alalow drug testing..still will only test the guilty regularly and only for certain things...The Police and Fire unions just this week agreed to hair sample drug tests here in Ny so they could boot the guilty if they come up dirty.Of course it took a vehicular homicide on the part of an officer who was coached through the breath test to get it passed but hey at least they tried..Local 32BJ forces the ees to pay dues as members and sells out the union every contract..

No today it is all about greed and deception.
