The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) announced today that it has removed its televised signal of Belmont Park thoroughbred racing from the in-home distribution network of the Nassau Regional Off-Track Betting Corporation, effective Wednesday, June 3.

The action comes as a result of the discovery that for a period of more than two months (from approximately January 29 to April 15), Nassau OTB had provided live streaming of NYRA racing on its internet site, in violation of New York State Racing and Wagering Board (NYSRWB) rules and regulations which require prior approval from NYRA for internet video streaming.

Despite repeated requests, NYRA has to date received no satisfactory explanation from Nassau OTB as to why it deliberately pirated NYRA’s signal over the internet.

Coincidentally, in early spring NYRA discovered that the Capital Regional Off-Track Betting Corporation was also streaming NYRA races on its website without its permission and in violation of SRWB regulations. Capital OTB, however, apologized and provided NYRA with a reasonable explanation for its actions. As a result, NYRA waived its right to remove its television signal from the Capital OTB in-home distribution network.

“NYRA’s racing signal is valuable and proprietary and we cannot allow it to be pirated by our competitors in the industry,” said NYRA President and CEO Charles Hayward. “Nassau OTB’s failure to apologize for and acknowledge its actions has prevented us from understanding what led to the unauthorized video streaming and creating safeguards to prevent this occurrence in the future.”

Geez

I get the Streaming Vidio via TwinSpires Every Day . Nyra Works things out with Them But can't seem to Get their Act together with In -State Folks .

Cmon What Online Betting Service Today is Going to Not Put Up an Online Signal . Selling the Rights to Take the Action without the Rights to Put Up a Signal is Idiotic .

Its About MONEY . The only Folks that NYRA Hurt are the Fans who Pay to Play at Nassau .

More Freakin Infighting in NY on these Services / Signals than the rest of the states All Together . It just Baffles me as to how NYRA and NYOTB's seem to Make Services Even Tougher for In State Players than Out Of State .

The OTB / NYRA Relationship should be Cooperative not Competitive . I don't see any OTB's Trying to operate Racetracks ??? So The OTB's Are Customers , not Competitors

Work it Out and Don't Offer Agreements that Do not Include Vidio Streaming . How Hard can That Be CHARLIE ?? [ Not That Charlie Cares or Answers Fans ]

Here's my take:

NYRA OWNS the racing signal and rights.

NYRA is a company that has every right to market their product (signal)

OTB's are separate entities that are trying to make a profit.

OTB's should pay for the signal which produces them the profit!

TVG pays for the signal...HRTV if they do NYRA pays for the signal...all the other venues that offer streaming pay NYRA for the signal.

We all have to pay Cablevision something to get the in house NYRA feed...thats not free. It's in your cable bill somewhere in the monthly bill along with all the other channels as they pay NYRA.

WHY should Nassau OTB NOT pay for the right when everybody else pays. They paid for the OTB in house video, but they were not allowed to pass it along to home streaming for free!

IF NYRA does not give their NYRA ONE account holders the streaming feed, why would anyone think it was OK for Nassau to do it...and for free without paying for the right.

It's like the confrontation between Denzel and Cuba Gooding in American Gangster when Cuba tried to change Denzels coke Blue Magic and cut it down for more profit without telling Denzel!. "Blue Magic is a name, a good product...they disagreed that after Cuba bought it from Denzel, he was free to do with it as he wants and DW put him in his place!
