By David Grening
With another major winter storm approaching the Northeast both Aqueduct and Laurel Park canceled their live racing cards for Wednesday. Laurel also canceled Thursday's card.
The New York Metropolitan area dodged last weekend's storm that brought 32 inches of snow to the Maryland/Washington, D.C., area and forced Laurel to cancel last Friday and Saturday. A foot or more of snow was forecast for New York, while anywhere from 10 to 20 inches of snow could hit the Maryland area.
This will be just the third full-card Aqueduct has canceled since the inner track meet opened on Dec. 2. Other cards lost to weather included Dec. 9 and Jan. 3. The Jan. 30 card lost its last six races after the jockeys refused to ride, citing concerns with the track.
Aqueduct is hoping to resume live racing on Thursday at 12:30 p.m.
