I did the pony rides at Coney Island in the early 1950s. I saw my first horse race live at Jamaica in 1958. I have been a thoroughbred fan and player since then. I have seen many thousands of horse races from coast to coast.
At the bar at the downstairs saloon today the Sunland 6th race was on the TV but I wasn't interested in it since we didn't have any action on it. Until... - the #2 horse comes off the turn with the lead and his ears are straight up. They are enormous and I'm thinking it's a mule race. Nope, it was FAUZETA and the horse battled down the lane to win for $19.00. The horse was game but I can't get my mind off of it's enormous ears. I have never seen larger ears on a thoroughbred. They stood straight up even as the horse was digging in to win a tight race. Check the replay if you can.
As a non-horseman I can only wonder if "enormous" ears do happen or if this animal was an anomaly.

Maybe in the paddock you can see the big stuff, but the far turn is to late
