Interesting and thought provoking. I don't like them either. The great weekend cards at Belmont Park are now nothing but a memory.

Thanks for a v. g. article!

So true.

Hayward was one of the best CEO's NYRA had only to be replaced by a politico CEO from "Toys r US fame".
This guy Kay and his incompetent "staff" are the reason why NYRA limited the attendance to 90K for thr Belmont.

Last year's Belmont Day diaster is an indication of how incompetent and clueless   this guy is.
Most of the papers noted the wreck that was 2014 Belmont Day...no water...no toilets..no food...no clerks..no trains

The same amount of bitching and moaning about NYRA and horse racing in general has been ongoing in this forum and it's predecessors for the past 12+ years. Now suddenly Hayward is put on a pedestal as the greatest thing NYRA ever had by some after his unceremonious departure.

And Hayward wasn't replaced by the current CEO, there was an interim CEO after he was terminated.

True. The CFO, a black woman whose name escapes me, ran the show for a bit. As "Chief Financial Officer" she was as clueless about the wrong takeout being applied as Hayward was.

As customers we have the choice to get in the pool or keep our feet dry.

And she got a pass from the Nattering Naybob of NYRA Negativity because she came to NYRA from the broadcast industry; of course with no prior horse race experience.......
