I read in the paper this morning that another slot bid process might be over and done by early May. This one will be overseen by the crooked hacks that run the corrupt New York Lottery. In the meantime New York faces a $9 BILLION deficit on the 2010 budget that doesn't even kick in until April 1st and has recently stopped issuing 2009 tax refunds because it is broke and needs all it's cash on hand to continue the handouts to important things like unions, special interests, and bums on welfare.

The blind accident we call "Governor" has already announced that the 2010 budget mandated by law to be in place by April 1st ain't gonna happen. He and the dysfunctional legislature can't seem to agree on the true meaning of "We're Broke! Gotta Cut Spending!"

Anyway, NYRA is broke, the New York breeders are going broke (horse breeders that is, the jobless people breeders are getting another welfare raise), and racing jobs are going up in smoke. There's a rally set for Sunday:

The Belmont meet and potentially the Saratoga meet are at risk of having the quality seriously watered down with Monmouth offering gigantic purses this spring/summer.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens when Monmouth kicks off it's meet with $1 million in purses every day. The trades have already quoted many NY trainers as saying they will be where the money is. Belmont and Saratoga have already booted several fine old stakes races and slashed purses for others.

Unfortunately, nobody in Albany, New York responsible for racing knows a damn thing about racing. I cried when the blind accident slid another hack buddy onto the State Racing and Wagering Board in February. The very people responsible for overseeing racing in New York are all patronage slobs that couldn't tell the difference between a horse and a harlot. They are all cluless puppets making 6 figs while taking up space.

Doesn't make much sence having at empty Belmont. Might only get the reporters and a few people. Should be at the big A where they are racing.

If you check the link, OG, one sees that the NY breeders are working this deal and I don't think they'd want to disrupt a live card. What they're doing makes sense.

Somebody needs to wake this state up - I'm not banking on the lefty Lib mindless voters who keep placing corrupt tax-and-spenders in office.

I hope something good comes from this but I learned Long ago that the state government is dysfunctional.
