My son John and his wife Jennifer are flying into LaGuardia on October 7th with confirmed paid-off plane tickets. The wife is going to pick them up and I have promised to be a railrat that day between the eighth and sixteenth poles like I was with my father half a century ago. The large fifty-cent beers are gone but the racing is still there.

The Board Meetings from years ago were great flings with maybe twenty people or more from the age of teen to senior citizen. The people were white, black, Hispanic, Jewish, Catholic, Protestant, atheist, sane, strange and just loving the horses and making new friends. I remember a teen coming from upstate to a Belmont Board Meeting named Travis Stone years ago.

I'll be the 68-year-old ancient fart up against the rail as they load for the first.

Sounds like a blast. Going to do my best to make it.

John & Jennifer are flying in from Chicago on Friday morning. No matter the weather we will be at Belmont Park Saturday to see all the loaded-up graded races on a great program.

Six graded stakes, seven overall. First post 12:15 p.m.

Looks like 70 degrees with chance of showers late in the day.

As a weak old man (weak in the mind) I was enticed to play the Friday Belmont card by my son. My plans were to read some newspapers and work the Saturday program. I had half a grand to go to the track with a sneaky Grant and C-note folded up and buried in my wallet.

I had a great time at home Friday with my son and daughter-in-law, especially with John buying the beer, but at my age I am no longer looking to swallow beers and/or play the ponies two days straight. Sixty-eight ain't twenty-eight or even 38 or 48.

I will not be along the rail on Saturday or even watching the races from home.
