I suppose that it’s better than no Belmont Stakes at all. 2020 has gone to hell in a handbag like nothing else in our lifetime.

If it becomes obvious by mid/late June that the 2020 Saratoga meet will be run without fans, what’s the point in moving the circus upstate? Why not just stay at Belmont through the autumn or shift the circuit 8 miles east to Aqueduct? It would certainly be more cost effective than moving the barns and the NYRA employees/equipment to what would essentially be a glorified TV studio for racing. Without the farmers and tourists, the handle is going to be the shits anyway. The once or twice a year Spa crowd who has nothing to do with racing the rest of the year won’t go out of their way to open ADW accounts to bet from home. Run the traditional Saratoga stakes downstate, market the heck out of it in simulcast land and on the sports networks, and look ahead to a normal Saratoga in 2021.

Shitcan the Belmont and call the 2020 "Belmont Stakes" the Wood Memorial that didn't happen.

Dressing up a 9-furlong allowance race and calling it the Belmont Stakes makes me wince.

Is there any chance of an upset?
