I am saddened by this news.

Very saddened by this news. I met Marshall years ago when I was still at Home Depot, and he was the very epitome of class. He always had a kind word to say and an appreciative handshake.

Back when NYRA still hosted an open house event prior to the Saratoga meeting, Marshall would call the steeplechase races, and on two occasions, he invited me into the announcer’s booth to watch. The photos of Marshall were taken July 26, 2009.

During the meet itself, Marshall served as one of the placing judges with Sonny Taylor and Ralph Theroux, and on a few occasions over the years, myself and fellow board members - Don, Rocket, and 1/8 Pole - got to watch a race from high above the Spa oval and see the photo finish process in action.

To say that Marshall Cassidy supplied myself and others with some fond track memories would be an understatement. He was as selfless as one can get. My thoughts and prayers to his wife Mary Ellen and family on their loss.

Smoothest voice of any announcer I have ever heard.

And yeah I was at Saratoga that day in 1980 when the great uncle started a stakes race before all the horses were loaded.

He had an amazing announcers voice. Loved his call of the 1989 Belmont.
