Isnt there a deadline to enter horses for a race prior to the actual, official draw?

Was she buying info on the horses trainers told the Secretary's Office they might be planning to enter?

Once the entry box closes for any individual race, is that list of potential runners available at that time, or does it not become known to all trainers and public until the actual draw for that race?

Looks like timing is key, and paying casts doubts with respect to when it was paid for?

Let's say Race 1 and 2 were both the same condition and needed to be filled and Rice had a horse for that condition. Rice was paying to find out who was entered in those races and then she would enter the race she thought she had the best chance to win.

Still makes no sense.

If Races 1 and 2 had same conditions, they would take all pre-entries and split the race at the draw, thus no advantage as you would not know who drew where until the draw.

There has to be more to this.

If the two races weren't going on the same day there'd be no draw for both to be filled at the same time. Linda was paying for information so she could land in a softer spot. She paid to make sure she wasn't entering a race that had a CITATION or WHIRLAWAY or KELSO in it.
