Purely speculative and a bit late..I like Conseco tried to get it this morning at 2.90 and missed by .4 cents it ran to 3.58 and backed down a bit..Bad news might get me a purchase before long..This company could be a double in a month or less...adding..

GNW pulled back a bit...this latest run may take a breather until after labor day....but with a cost basis of a $1.30, I can wait.....

covered calls would lessen your cost basis even more look at Dec.....12.00's or at the very least 10.5

I don't follow the stock and I know some of you guys have made 600% or more on this one. One fact, the company took over the insurance business for the state of Texas (competitive bid). That means they have either undercut traditional profits, which in a public insurance plan are bound to be pretty thin already, or their underwriters are being more aggressive than their peers, maybe a lot more aggressive. That means bad mojo down the road as claims come in bigger and more than expected but fantastic revenue up front. Buffet says the juice is out of the insurance business, and I tend to believe what he says. I am the last one to want to rain on your parade: you stepped up when everyone else hated the market, hated the sector. But some profit taking may be in order.

Part of the industry's opinion of the GNW name is directly related to the Oracle of Omaha being down on both the industry and of course his ability to speak out of both sides of his mouth..Remember the recent DOWNGRADE his ratings agency tagged on both GNW and XL..only to find out later he was interested in potentially acquiring one or the other..I look at GNW as a company with about an 18 month run..There will be a correction and the haircut will allow for some additional buying but somewhere in that 18 month period holders will be rewarded with a company valued on a cash basis at about 23.00..

If Buffet is so down on insurance, why isn't he selling his Berkshire shares? Berkshire is basically a huge insurance company

Exactly..He was looking to raid the company and used negative spin to devalue the shares through Moody's...he did the same thing to Constellation Energy..He is no friend to the average shareholder...

The 1996 Berkshire Hathaway "Owners Manual" is a pretty good read:

bought CIT today...high risk but I believe a high probability of returns...1.18 per share. If they make it past the end of the month this is a 5.00 stock the end of the year...
