After Easter NYRA goes back to a 5-day racing week. On Wood Day (April 4th) there is a turf stakes scheduled and I'm thinking the main track will be open next week.
I was just just peeking at tomorrow's Florida Derby card. I like to look at an entire program as a "project" to beat since most of my action is horizontal but fourteen races, to me anyway, is an ordeal and not necessarily a fun day at the races. To each their own I suppose.
I wasn't surprised that NYRA has no stakes races on Saturday's card. The philosophy now is to load up "big days" with stakes (Wood Day has an unnecessary five). This makes guys like me go to places like Philly for action. I'm sure I'm not hurting NYRA's handle a lot but Wood Day has no need to be loaded up with stakes that on other days would attract paying customers and fan interest. Hey, the NYRA bossman is a big government employee and once saw five races at Cahokia Downs as a lad. He probably knows better than me.

Boss man shows no improvement, and his reputation gets no better. Sad!
