Since I'm home alone with a good stock of beer, cigars, money, Fig Newtons, and womens' underwear and makeup I thought I'd have a spring celebration with the racing at the Big A on the main track.
What I see is five 6-furlong sprints, small fields, and every race going just one turn. Why bother? I'd rather lose somewhere else with a shot for a score than keep covering the three to five chalk all day to beat four or five plugs. One race today has nine runners in it before scratches.
Hey, I'm spoiled as a 50+ year New York racing fan but I have never seen an endless stream of garbage racing like we have now.
Just a few short years ago this board fired I.R.S. scores over the winter with some regularity. We had bigger fields, more routes, caulkzactas, great participation, and wild-ass getaway plays with the crazy angles. This winter we got 42% faves, 5-horse fields, pissant sprint after sprint, and the same old worn-out stock plodding down the track as if sleepwalking. Am I going into dementia or was this winter a horror?
