Just some thoughts on a wide-open contest.

Nice number on BROCCO VALLEY. This guy has been competive with open claimers, open allowance runners, and open cheap stakes runners at the Finger. Stretches out just a tad after a good effort with Slow Bred stakes runners. Overlaid for Baker in this group.

BILLY BEAR is undefeated but comes off a 299-day layup. Nine OK works since early July and Prado returns for Sid Dutrow. Kinda chalky.

THEARTOFCOMPROMISE is 2 for 3 at Saratoga, a last-race winner, and the only horse in the race that is a winner at today's distance.

RUFFINO is another layoff horse with a 2-race win streak. Has only had 4 works to get ready for this.

GROOMEDFORVICTORY need only be a step or two better than his last-race effort to get home here but he's at least zip for for his last ten races with Luzzi.

This race is a toughy.

Luzzi has never ridden GROOMEDFORVICTORY, he's on STOPBLUFFING.

GROOMED and ART to start the DD along with FOURTH ST. DD 3-4-6/2-3-5-6

You're right Stan. I have been sober for more than a week and my eyes are betraying me. I should have them fixed by race 4.

I can see a whole lot of ways to go into a hole early here but the race promises to land a number if we're right about the layup horses.

DD: 1-3-4-6/2-5-8

Luck to all who are diddling this one.

Old Mrs. Murphy (the WWII Army nurse) just phoned to tell me to ram the 6/3 DD cold or she would come down the block to beat the hell out of me.

The layoffs (508 days between them) go one/two, proving once again that Saratoga is a tough place to make a living.

I can live with horses under 4/1 making me look the fool but I just laid out the Please Kick Me, I Am Stupid sign for later use.

Maybe I will wear the STUPID sign. The figs on RUFFINO were far superior to the rest but the 4 works (not the times) had me concerned about conditioning after the 7-month layoff.
