At some expense the wife, her sisters and her brother have a huge cabin gizmo resort rented from Friday to Monday out in the woods someplace in Pennsylvania. The previous generation is dead (I miss a few of them, very few) and the siblings are going to gather with their adult children and grandchildren and cousins. I won't go and everybody knows it - I'm staying home with the cats, my books, my newspapers, football and maybe some beers and horse racing.
Here's what got me: The Chrysler 200 sedan will be gone from Friday morning until late Monday. The bride told me that she would rent a car for me so that I could go out for my morning "muffin run" or do some shopping or in case of an "emergency". I hugged her hard (no grope) and told her she was nuts. I'll be well-stocked with stuff and as a 70-year-old geezer I can still walk well upright, cook and take care of myself.
I'll tell you, though - that car-rental offer made my heart warm.

The bride left at 11:30 A.M. Friday for her long weekend in the woods of Pennsylvania with her family. I told her to take my old Marine Corps .45 automatic with seven in the magazine in case she ran into Sasquatch but she politely refused. She left with a hug and a kiss and my wishes for her to have a safe trip and good time.
