Today is the 34th anniversary of the "flurries that wouldn't leave Long Island" and knocked the crap out of New York.

I was out early before 7 a.m. in the new '82 Ford Escort (4-speed) to do service on some computer equipment in Syosset. The wife was out in the '74 Olds to get to the train station to get to Manhattan. John was just five and the downstairs saloon was an apartment for a young couple - Joe worked while his wife took care of their baby and John. Hey, everybody hustled then and the government wasn't expected to send checks and provide housing to bums like now.

Light snow was falling at 7 a.m. when I arrived at my work site but I figured it'd get warmer and turn to rain. Off my service call at 9 a.m. I was dispatched to another job but outside there was three or four inches of snow down and it was snowing like hell. I tried but the snow kept coming and I headed for home. I barely got there. The plows weren't out and all travel was a horror. Nobody expected this.

I don't think a foot of snow fell but nobody expected this storm in April, certainly not the weather wankers on TV or radio.

Anybody remember this unexpected snow dump?
