It was raining like hell and on the top step of my side door was a strange shivering kitten that I had not seen before. There's an overhang there so the cat was not getting hit with a lot of rain but overnight it sure did. I went outside to bring it into the house. I figured I could dry it off and provide a good meal. It ran off.

When the rain stopped I laid out a lot of cat food and my regulars showed up to feast. The small hungry kitten showed up too but was too shy to eat. Intimidated by larger cats. The orange Garfield, an adolescent tom, walked over to the kitten and noodged its head. The kitten walked with Garfield to the food and ate well. And ate well this morning again right next to Garfield.

Cats are strange creatures.

The kitten was lethargic yesterday and sick last night. This morning it was barely breathing next to my side stoop laid out. I knew that a scoop and a rush to the vet would only cost me a lot a money. I let it die in peace and it did just that with no pain or abuse around 10 a.m. this morning. Garfield was sitting nearby - he knew too.

Three saved in the house and I feed and shelter some ferals outside with the garage open. I can't save them all - Mom Nature and the elements do their work.
