With temps up to 8 degrees by 11 a.m. the bride is thinking about sitting outside topless to catch some sun. And at one below your pee doesn't freeze before it hits the ground. Tongue on the steel flagpole? I left that mystery unexplored.

All my regulars were outside in sunny zero temps for breakfast. Some were play fighting and rolling in the snow cover out back. Some spent the night in the cat condos, some were in the garage and a couple were nesting underneath the deck. The snow on the deck provided insulation while the cat nests underneath are well-established (dry and out of the wind).

I petted Emily's flanks while she was eating and her fur was warm to the touch. All of "my" ferals are robust with all the good meals I lay out every day and all appear to be hale and healthy. Cats are tough creatures. With good food, water and even primitive shelter they can handle both horrendous heat and abysmal cold. They eat nothing but premium wet and dry cat food and bland beef and poultry leftovers from the house. And lots of sardines in water when I catch a sale. Jeez, they go nuts over fresh sardines.
