I was up later than usual before I went into the den to touch my wife's shoulder, kiss her neck and wish her a good night. It was near midnight, there were no cats around and I figured they were all downstairs at the saloon as I plodded up the stairs to go to bed.

I had laid an extra blanket on the big old bunk since the overnight lows were going under 50 degrees. I was under the blankies in the dark until I thought I heard something to my left. It was the momcat Mister Mittens - cats only expend enough energy to jump to where they are going and they land gently. She was standing and I reached over to pet her and I did.

She flopped with her patented "rump thump" into my hip and laid out. I reached over again to pet her again and she bit me with a nip - four fangs that do not break skin or cause bleeding. She wanted to sleep with me but did not want any pettings. We slept.

I wake up with the dawn and this morning when I woke up the momcat was "sphinx" to my right. I petted her skull and ears. She rubbed the side of my face with the right side of her's. When I made a move to get up she vaulted over me to race downstairs to sit by her feed dish, at which place she sat patiently wile I moped downstairs to fart, pee and moan. I fed her well and I fed her son and daughter well too.

Cats are amazing creatures.
