I got good advice last month from the bride, Mr. Saratoga and Wooley. I had an 8 a.m. appointment this morning at the VA Clinic at the Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow and I went. A lady from the VA Hospital in Northport phoned me yesterday to remind me of my appointment and I thought that was a nice touch. I was on time and at 8 sharp I was called in to see a nurse one on one in a private office for vitals and a medical questionnaire as a new patient. Immediately after I went in to see Dr. Shirley in a nifty exam room. She thanked me for my service and we went over my medical history. I had a copy of my recent blood work and a list of my meds. We went over those. I then caught a complete physical. And then... My VA doctor (permanently assigned to me) sat with me and we talked about a good game plan to keep me healthy. She cared and treated me with great respect and dignity. She set me up to catch my prescriptions for life through the mail with an $8 deductible per 90 days supply and scheduled me for a new blood work with every test possible. She wants to see me again in January and then personally escorted me to another nurse (USAF vet). This wonderful lady gave me shots for the flu, pneumonia and Hepatitus-C with a kicker for pertussis (whooping cough). My take? I was thrilled with my treatment and the people who served me. The facilities were top notch and I was herded nowhere - I was treated as an individual and the people I saw truly cared. I will never see another civilian MD for primary health care under Medicare again. My bill for seeing the MD, the inoculations and my future blood work is $0.00 - I paid my VA premiums long ago as a Marine. I was impressed and cannot imagine better treatment. |

I had to go back this morning (10/31) to verify my civilian prescriptions so the VA could take them over at the cost of $8 to me every 90 days and have a blood work done. I arrived at 7:30 a.m., peed in a cup, got bled, got my prescriptions verified (due in the mail within three days) and was out of there at 8:10. Great caring people, great service. I'm still impressed. I don't know anything about the VA Hospital out in Northport as a newbie patient but the clinic is first-rate. |
