It doesn't matter if they are spayed or neutered. Feral or in a house - it matters not. Daylight Savings Time does not matter. The American Domestic Short-Haired Cat is out of many hundreds of thousands of generations of cat. The Science Channel tells me that small cats were first domesticated in ancient Egypt. The cats could kill and eat the rats that ate the stored grain and the Egyptians would take care of the cats. Cats don't eat grain or Egyptians. A symbiotic relationship developed that was beneficial to both Egyptian and wild cat. The cats were most active to kill rats at dawn and dusk when they knew the hunting was best. The ancient Egyptians mummified cats and left them in a lot of tombs with dead big shots.

I grow no grain in the backyard farm and have seen no rats here for 38 years but I do understand why my Egyptian momcat off the street Mister Mittens wakes me up before dawn for food - no rats, no Egyptians are nearby and she's hungry.
