I just got back from the Home Depot. The deck out back needs some help. The bride had visions of replacing a plank or two and then stripping the wood down to the bare cedar. Then would come sanding and and staining. Of course it was the male half of this trial marriage of 44 years that was appointed to do all of the work.

I told her this place ain't Mar-a-Lago but that I could probably have the job done by November before first snow and need a lot of expensive tools. We negotiated - I got my wood putty and two gallons of Behr Deck-Over. Now it's a one or two day job. The color is changing from "cedar" (she calls it orange) to "chocolate" (I call it dung heap brown).

And a tip of the cap to Home Depot - veterans catch a 10% discount at the register.

Its Deck Prep Tuesday with side jobs of replacing the bottom molding on a glass shower door and staining some front door trim.

I learned long ago that if you do a job or two or three for a good woman around the house it all comes back to you many times over.

I patched the deck and will need to replaced one cedar plank. I replaced the bottom molding on the glass shower door and stained the bare exterior wood that surrounds the front door. I did the laundry on Monday.

On Wednesday the teen bride will happily allow me to be a disgusting old man with beers and horse racing.
