Early on Monday morning I had laid out lots of cat food and the feral cats ate well.
I got out to ShopRite for a warm muffin when the bride got home from that wedding out east on Long Island and when I got back I laid out more cat food. That's when I began to set up the kitchen table for my Cheerios, a sliced banana, my muffin, Irish butter and had some Maxwell House Breakfast Blend brewing with a couple of scoops of Colombian to give it some body.
I could see out back when I finally sat down and saw an orange tom over one of Catty Patty's kittens that just got out of the garage and began walking. I have no idea if the cat killed the kitten. I raced outside and the cat picked up the kitten by the scruff and began walking away. The cat galloped away with the kitten when I got outside.
I have never seen an adult feral cat hurt a kitten, and certainly not when good food is available in nice weather. I have seen unrelated feral cats "stand guard" over small kittens that were in play and frolic out back. I have never seen a cat go "cannibal" at any time.
I am bewildered but if I find out that the kitten is dead I could be going to a closet for an old Colt .45 pistol Model 1911-A1 with an orange cat on my mind.
And yeah, later on Catty Patty was all over the backyard looking for her kitten and so was the young recently-neutered tom Bosco.
Cats don't eat cats, right?

WHERE did Mom cat take the kitten? Was this kitten one that was sick or frail? Never heard of adult cat attacking kitten especially when plentiful food

The kitten wasn't sick. The adult male ran off with it.

The kitten is back. The wife went out to the garage this morning and there was Catty Patty with her two kittens. I have no idea when the kitten was returned unharmed or who did it.
Just another head scratcher with a happy ending.
