On November 10th, 1775 by order of the Continental Congress the first enlistments into the Continental Marines were made. The men were to be boarding parties, gunners mates, ship security and riflemen along the rails and in the masts of ships of the Continental Navy. Enlistments were made at Tunn Tavern, Philadelphia. And United States Marines have been fond of saloons from that day forward. |
