Trouble was warbling and trotting all over the house this morning with his favorite mouse toy in his jaws. He got into my bed and left the toy there after "killing" it about ten times. I tossed the thing to the floor. About an hour later the cat came back upstairs, saw his toy mouse on the floor, picked it up and put it back where he left it on my bed and departed again. This happened more than once so what's the deal?
Big cats such as lions make a kill and eat but they lay away the leftover carcass for a meal later. They want their "kill" to be where they left it and can find it.
"Little" cats haven't been domesticated like dogs for many thousands of years - cat brains are still wired to be wild and a cat is going to be better at surviving if outside alone than a pet dog.

Can take the cat "out of the jungle", but not the "jungle out of the cat"!
