Bumble Bee puts out a 15-ounce can of chub mackerel packed in water. You get three or four small mackerel bodies with the heads, fins and the guts gone. The trick is to dump the can into a huge feed bowl, open up the bodies with your hands and remove the bony spines. The fish are oily and with the water you get some great fishy soup that looks like pond scum and smells like something you don't smell every day. Once the spines are in the garbage you mash the fish up a bit with a fork. Add a little warm water and after the feed bowl is laid outside, the cats race up to it and love it For seafood the bride enjoys lobster and shrimp and that's it. She's OK with me preparing scallops or sole or swordfish steak for myself but when I'm serving mackerel to cats I have to warn her to stay out of the kitchen. The sight and smell make her queasy. She ain't thrilled with the smell of sardines either. |
