Temps were in the 90s just three days ago but this morning it was 45 when I got up to fix some cat breakfasts. That did it. It was time to swap out the furnace filters, change the batteries in the programmable thermostat and fire up the oil burner to make sure my old carcass doesn't freeze this winter. All went well.

The wife told me this: When I was in the basement laundry room replacing the filter for the air intake to the oil burner I was just beneath the air intake vent which is located in the hallway to the bathroom and bedrooms on the main floor. The momcat, Shiloh and Trouble heard me fiddling around through the vent. They hunkered down figuring some kind of creature was lurking behind the vent. They snarled, their hackles were up and they were poking at the vent with their paws. The vent monster was coming!

I wish I had seen it.

And yeah, the window AC units are coming out today.
