I was out at the VA Hospital in October to catch a CT scan so that the docs could catch a picture of my insides. I'm 71 and met an older Marine that day - a Korean vet. He was with his wife. I was wearing a cap with U.S.M.C. embroidered on it.
The man's wife said, "Look, a Marine." The man asked me who I served with and I told him 6th Marines and 27th Marines. He told me that he served with H Company/3rd Battalion/5th Marines in Korea. I told him that my late father-in-law was a 1949 Marine regular and was wounded with A Company/1st Battalion/5th Marines in Korea.
Chosin Reservoir.
He teared up and said, "We froze and we fought. And we got out of there."
