In this hot and steamy weather I will leave the slidding stall doors open, but use stall guards to keep them in the stall. Last night, Light Classic somehow cut her upper eyelid cut pretty bad. I noticed blood on her ankles this morning as I was getting ready to let her out. the blood was dripping down her face onto her leg. She had torn her eyelid up about a half an inch. I used a compress then wound dressing, but it only made it bleed more, she'd need stiches. The Vets office doesn't open till about 9 AM and it was only 7. Another compress then the loose fitting fly mask would have to do untill I could get our vet here. She couldn't get there until 2:30 this afternoon and I was there to assist any way I could. First she tranked her then used a pain blocker around the eye with about 10 injections. Lighty was almost out of it and her head hung down about 2 feet above the floor. I picked her head up and used my shoulder to hold her head up so the vet could work on the eye. It took about 25 minutes and about 15 stitches to close the ugly wound. It didn't look too bad when she was done but was really swollen. We're leaving her mask on for the next 10 days to keep the fly's away and keep the eye protected. The vet will return in 10 days to remove the sultures because of the location. I'm happy we got it sewn up because it looked as if it would be difficult if not impossible when I first saw it. I have to give her antibiotics with her feed and bute once a day. In a big barn/stable it might be common place but when it happens in a one man operation like mine, its a serious matter.

We have metal switch boxes outside every stall to turn the stall lights on and off. She must have chewed on the metal cover there-by bending one corner away from the box. Horses love to rub their neck and face on anything. In this case it was an accident waiting to happen, my fault, I should have forseen this happening.

I ain't never met "Jack at the Track" but that he wasn't a nice man.

DIXIE BOURBON is a legend at the downstairs saloon and one of the horse's win photos hangs there with honor and will stay there at least until I go dead.

One day C.C. Lopez had DIXIE on the rail at a mile and 70 on the Aqueduct inner. I told everybody at Potter's Pub that it was DIXIE BOURBON's day. The bar went to the windows.

DIXIE wired them at a nice number, I got drunk and I woke up next day with an old woman from Guatamala who thought I was President Roosevelt.

Give her a kiss for me Jack. It's hell waiting when something you love is hurt.

Its been 7 days tommorow since getting the stiches. I keep her fly mask on 24/7 until she gets them out. I go out to the barn every night to check on her. I hand out either peppermint balls or butterscotch candies to the girls and they look forward to my late night visits. I'll skip the kiss, but will give her a pat on the head for you. :D
