Early in the morning November 23rd my beloved bride is scheduled for double-bypass heart surgery at NYU/Langone/Winthrop, the same place I gave up some left lung to beat cancer in June. Colleen carries monster insurance beyond Medicare but that is not my concern. This is very invasive surgery through the chest. Her post-surgery prognosis is excellent but this is still a major procedure with risk involved. I'm reading and learning that the operation will last four to six hours and that leaves me feeling a tad weak.
Beyond another follow up for my cataract surgeries (the afternoon of November 23rd!) I have no VA medical appointments until January when I go for a CAT scan to see if the C-devil within me stays dead. I will be able to care for my wife while she recovers at home after four or five days in the hospital.
There are many thousands of dead seniors in New York from Covid and many thousands more that are in worse shape than the wife and me so I feel fortunate that we are together after 47 years and still upright.
It's a kick in the ass for Thanksgiving but I'll be A-OK with that deal. I was away in the Marines for four years' worth of holidays and special times at home. I'm more concerned about my girl.
