My living room has been a cat kennel since July and the wife wanted it back. No matter what the ads say you know you have a litterbox nearby when an adult cat lets loose a steaming pile of cat cakes. You can't scoop your scented cat litter before they crap and it takes a minute or so for a cat to bury his/her waste and smooth out everything.

With Chaos and Mischief adopted, yesterday I installed a new litter box in the downstairs saloon and moved the living room litter box to the top of the stairs that go to the saloon. I also started feeding the cats downstairs and installed comfortable bedding for them.

Cats are creatures of habit (like old beer-swilling pony players) and seemed to be confused when they went to the litter box that wasn't there. They'd stand there and look around. I was able to show them where the litterbox had been moved to and they happily used it. I showed them where the new one was not far from the new bedding down at the saloon and they used it. Cats are intelligent and adaptable if you show some patience and kindness toward them.

But deep down in their feral little hearts they don't give a &%$! about you unless they want something.

And yet, they are fascinating to watch and sometimes blow your mind by being affectionate and appreciative.

But everything is on their terms.
