I just watched little Shiloh go for a nipple on Mister Mittens. The Momcat was lying on her side napping but she gave her daughter a good back paw "claws out" swat across the face. Shiloh got the same on a second attempt and a front paw swat as well.

Message sent.

Dr. Wallach has been practicing veterinary medicine for more than 30 years locally. He is an accredited surgeon and has been affiliated with DVMs at all the New York racetracks. He owns four cats as pets.

He told me that it would be very unusual for a momcat to keep producing milk after two or three months max unless there was a severe food shortage and she wanted to keep her kittens going. But NOT impossible if her motherly instincts were in HIGH gear. Usually Mom Nature tells the Momcat to shut down the milk producing and get her body ready to breed again in order to keep the species going.

There is no food shortage at my house but we have seen Trouble and Shiloh nursing well beyond their time.
