I call the clumped waste in the litter boxes "cat cakes". Cats are immaculately clean creatures and will not despoil anything near where they live and sleep. When Mister Mittens was a young feral girl earlier this year she would hang out in my backyard while I was diddling in the garden. She would go up against my fence and dig a hole. When the hole was deep enough she would squat over it for whatever she had to do. When done she would fill in the hole with the dirt she had dug out and then spend time smoothing everything out with her two front paws. She had everything set and buried like she had never been there. I was amazed and impressed.
Fast forward to now. The cats instinctively treat the litter boxes just like they treat God's green earth out in the wild. And they're curious creatures. When I waltz around with my plastic bag to scoop and clean the litter boxes Sweet Little Shiloh will often follow me. While I scoop and dump the cat cakes she is sitting next to me and her little head follows my every move - scoop and bag, scoop and bag. Her little head goes back and forth, back and forth as she watches. She just sits and watches everything without making a sound.
When I am done and lay some fresh cat litter out Shiloh will jump into the litter box and shit her brains loose.
Cats don't go to school to learn how to break your balls and piss you off but sometimes it seems like they do.
