I've received several breeders checks already since Starbuckets started racing at Finger Lakes back in May. Both checks were pitiful and didn't total more than $300. Yesterday I received the final and most resent awards check of $975. This helps pay the horse bills that total $4000. per month for her and the two I have in training at Penn. Starbuckets is off the track at a lay-up farm adjacent to Finger Lakes for the Winter. The other two in Penn. will also be layed-up for the Winter by the end of Dec. reducing my bills to about $1700 per month for all three. This has been the worst two years we've had since I started my back yard racing stable. Like many other NY breeders, I didn't breed any of my three broodmares last or this year due to the economy.

My PA trainer Clovis Crane really likes the Disco Rico yearling colt out of my Storm Bird mare, Fly My Bird. He thinks out of all the horses he's trained for me over the years, this one's the best horse I've sent him. I hope he's right!

It is a sport filled with optimism no matter where you fit into the puzzle. Good luck.

Jack:

Good luck in 2011. Hopefully, the general economy picks up and the ny breeder awards along with the slots at AQU make it a good year for ny breeders.

I remember the years' of your racers Dixie Brass and B&B... :) and hope the future repeats the past for your stable.

Best of luck with the colt. Please don't keep it a secret about when he goes to race!

Many Thanks to everyone taking an interest in my back-yard operation. Although it hasn't made me rich, I do enjoy the excitment both on the track and on this message board. Its like having partners to share the victories and soften the setbacks with.

Jeez, I love Spendo but New York breeders should be in New York to grab the taxpayers' money.

New York is BILLIONS in the hole with the handouts and the taxpayers have had it.

I understand that the Van Scam makes a good dollar but to call a horse from Kentucky whose Mom gets on a van and drops a foal on New York soil for future handouts is a stretch.
