Yeah, I'm still digging out. The driveway almost killed me.

Image The mailman didn't show up yesterday anyway.

Image Two feet easy.

Image Here until April maybe.

Image Winter wonderland.

Image There will be no cocktails on the veranda until somebody digs it out.

I just finished putting down the ice melt where the sun doesn't hit. I am done digging and I'm still standing. The schools were closed today and in my 32 years here I have never seen so many neighbors hire kids to help dig out. I went solo because if I saw a kid shoveling my stuff all I would see is beers, smokes and $2 doubles flying out the window.

Funny how it goes. Up in the Canadian Atlantic, including this one, I think we have missed five noreasters this winter, which usually intensive greatly after they are done with the northeast.

We have had one storm (and that was only 20cm) for the whole winter, the grass was still showing until two weeks ago, and school has been cancelled only twice.

The snow plow guy has been here about six times all winter, at the house. Last year, he was here over ten the week between Christmas and New Years alone.

True, Buffalo gets whumped for sure. Here on Long Island blizzards are rare because of the relatively warm Atlantic. Still, we're better at handling it than D.C. The entire federal government has been shut down all week.

We've had no mail delivery for two days now and my post office is just 4 blocks away. People were stronger, tougher, and had a better work ethic years ago in my honest opinion. When I was a kid your letter carrier would walk a route via relay boxes through hip-deep snow and keep at it until after dark but those guys were WWIIers and a different breed. Today, it's just too bothersome to find clear parking spaces with the little heated trucks.

I remember the Buffalo Blizzard of 1977 when dead people were found frozen in buried cars near downtown days later. The History Channel has a documentary about it and it's a doozy. It makes the Blizzard of 1888 seem like a snow squall.

Gee, 1/4 pole...you did get alot of snow for Qns. Unusual for NYmetro area.
Looked like had a good 12-14" of snow there...maybe more. Did you shovel all that snow? The driveway alone is a chore no matter how good a shape you are in. But I can see from the photos, it would be difficult to have a plow-guy move the snow. If is gets really cold...snow will be there until  April!

I live in No West. and got no snow last week, and only about 9'' total, maybe. 7" on Tues and 2" dusting overnight to Wed. No wind. No ice.

I live in Nassau County, Wooley, and yes I was the lone slow shoveler. If Monica's boyfriend shoveled some snow and got some exercise maybe he wouldn't be flat on his back looking for a Big Mac tonight.
