You can see the blacktop through the ice on my block this morning as the ice pellets continue to fall. Later on a few inches of snow are supposed to cover the ice and I'm sure the morning and evening commutes will be "bumper cars" all over Long Island and NYC. The schools are closed. I've laid out cat food for the ferals and plan to lay out lots more. I've got the car warming since local traffic is light with the schools closed and I want to get out for my newspapers and maybe some cold ones if I decide to diddle a track later on. The car is covered in an icy glaze that needs a good melting and scraping.

When I opened the front door to snap this shot, the falling ice pellets made the world sound like Rice Krispies when the milk first hits them.

No late snow on Long Island yet going into 5 p.m. John laid down the ice melt earlier and then went into the ice with a steel shovel to clear the walks on our property and sidewalk.

Ice stinks unless it's in a short glass with Irish whiskey and you're near your bed.
