I know as much about deck maintenance as I know why women keep smacking me on a crowded bus. It's cedar and I kept getting crossed signals on how to care for it so I did some research and charged full-speed ahead. First it was gently power washed at low pressure and scrubbed with Clorox' Outdoor Bleach. Swept clean and clear I then applied Thompsons waterproofing with cedar tint and it looks like I hit a home run. I was worried about bleached wood bleeding through but things came out OK. Next time through in a year or two I'll go with the oxygenated bleach and keep the chlorine out of the picture. Hey, the wife is good to me. All guys know you have to give a little to keep the ship of marriage on an even keel. That's her "veranda" and I'm just happy to take care of it.

We did a good job pop. And on Wed we can have the first beer bash on it. Live raceing from the Big A from the out side deck. A warm up for Derby Day.

Looks good Cedar is the way to go...no arsenic to prevent wood rot like older decks.

The drunks that vomited on the deck yesterday during the Big A card remarked on how stain-resistant it is.

The standing water on the deck this morning after the rains thrilled me.
It doesn't take a lot to thrill an old fart. Standing water on the cedar planks and some cleavage on a crowded bus usually does it.
