This is the gazebo frame:

This is the deck upon which the gazebo frame sits after the winter of 2016-'17:

The boy and the girl that live on the same property understand two things:

(1) Feral cats like to get on the garage roof and jump on the gazebo roof. Their claws can puncture the gazebo roof. The bride has purchased a new gazebo roof. She doesn't want cats on her gazebo roof.

(2) I can grab some great 10X1 deck stuff from Home Depot and after some easy scraping and prepping I can make that cedar planking look brand new. The bride wants the deck scraped by pros at great expense and refinished to look like the shiny ass of a new-born baby.

Advice needed:

How do we keep cats off the gazebo roof without shooting them as they hop off the garage roof?

And how do I stop the teen bride from blowing tons of cash on the deck for a job I can do for under a hundred bucks?

Shooting cats is not an option but I understand there are strips that you can put on a gazebo roof that cats just don't like the feel of and won't walk upon. We're going to look into that.
