The teen bride had just come home with her dear girlfriend Enid after a trip to a new steakhouse in East Meadow. Enid will be here for a couple of days and I have adored her for decades. She was my wife's mentor at Merrill Lynch long ago. I was preparing the platters of cat food in the kitchen and grabbing some cans of tuna and sardines when the bride said to me: "When I pulled into the driveway I noticed that there was a lot of pussy waiting for you outside. At your age you should be thrilled." I had no idea that an Irish girl out of a Catholic high school could talk like that. But I laughed and she did too.
I think the girls might have had a cocktail. Maybe two.
And yes, some feral cats were waiting for me outside to bring out their dinner.
