This is Miss Dawson's second-grade class in 1954 at Marshall Street School in Hempstead, NY. I am the boy third row up and third from the right in a spiffy bow tie. I was 6 years old, having never attended kindergarten. We had two sets of twins in the class - the Brower and Holland sisters. Lower right is my buddy and fellow Marine John Taft who was horribly disabled in Vietnam and died from his wounds in 2007. Miss Dawson was the first girl I ever met that I wanted to marry - she was that sweet.

You were so cute! Looked "angelic" You had a "small" class. All happy, smiling kids.

I went to a parochial grammer school.
My second grade had 68 students in one room taught by one teacher..a Sister of Charity nun, like the one in the movie Doubt !
