While I was piddlefutzing with the garden in late June I snapped this shot. It was the feral Mister Mittens very pregnant with four kittens. She got fed and watered that day at my house and was treated kindly before she waltzed off to do whatever preganant street cats do except that I had no idea she was pregnant.

It's like my wife of 37 years keeps telling me - men are truly stupid when they have their trousers on and even more stupid when their trousers are off.

Mister Mittens was displaying a low-slung belly that day and I thought it was just because she was eating well. I give her credit though - because of my son she knew that she could be treated with kindness and maybe get fed OK at my house. How she survived the blizzards of last winter I will never know but she's a happy house cat now even though she sometimes lurks by a door to go out some more.

Yup, up in the upper right of that photo is a can of Bumblebee tuna.

I had no idea that a young girl like Mister Mittens could be pregnant. I thought the cat was a male until she became a mother.

Damn, had I grown up in West Virginia or Kentucky I would have been less than worthless as a youngster.
