After a bad day at the races I laid out a great dinner for the cats. Unlike dogs the cats can eat in close quarters and they do not go "glutton" - they feed gently and do not gobble and then go push somebody off the feed bowl to grab some more.

From left to right that's the momcat Mister Mittens, the tomcat Trouble, and the small lady cat Shiloh (Sweet Babycakes). The yellow "kibble bowl" in the upper left of the photo is empty because the Momcat has been jumping it with vigor all day between meals.

Fast forward a minute. Mister Mittens has nudged her son aside to grab the food out of his feed dish without having finished her's. He's a nice gentle fellow and that's his mother so he visits her feed dish to eat while she contemplates about the best way to get fatter (look at that belly). Her belly really shows here - but her son and daughter are lean and muscular.

Young women are very popular. I used to love them. But Mister Mittens might be almost two-years-old and is barely out of kittenhood. Eating so much and crying out for food between sleep jobs is not the way to go.

My son tells me to kick her out into the street for a few weeks so she can slim down and understand once again that a house is not a bottomless feed dish.
