I was working my way to go downstairs for a beer this afternoon. Sweet Babycakes was in my recliner and I paused to gently pet her head and rub a hand along her flanks. She woke up and made some kind of cat noises that sounded to me like happiness (something like Aaaaaah! and then a purr) but as a person who has only housed cats for a year I'm wondering if it's cat abuse to wake up a cat with petting and love. The little girl cat quickly closed her eyes again and went back to sleep. I'm just worried that I made her go unconscious with fear.

Those goddamn cats own my home now.

The bride of 38 years leaves the ceiling fan on at a good clip in the morning before she drives off to Manhattan. The cats lie on her bed on their backs to catch some belly breezes in the early-morning heat. Sometimes while she's reading a book at night in the living room on the sofa the tomcat will jump up next to her, warble and mew with delight, and then sprawl across her lap and go to sleep. Damn, I did the same thing 40 years ago when she was 17 and I was safe from an arrest with the age laws.
