My wife's Aunt Marion is 90 and is in hospice and near death but she's had a helluva long run. Marion's kid brother was my father-in-law Mike (1930) who was wounded while serving with 5th Marines in Korea (A company/1st battalion/5 Marines, 1st Marine Division).

Marion's granddaughter is getting married on May 28th and my wife's family is going to be there (what's left). Me? I'm staying home to feed cats and read the Sunday newspapers.

No problem, right? Wrong. The wedding is way out east on Long Island on Memorial Day Weekend - like out by the Hamptons. A month or two ago my teen bride called for a motel or hotel reservation "out east" and couldn't catch a night in a broken shed with a crazy guy carrying an axe for under $300.00.

Some family folks are going to tie up at my wife's kid brother's house to grab a limo there and back - the black stretchy thingy is cheaper than staying out "east" on Long Island.

I'll be laying up in my recliner in some old drawers with a horrible purring momcat in my lap as I read the papers and watch an old flick on TCM or catch a ball game.

The wife got home near 8 a.m. this morning. She had told me that she might have a drink or two at the wedding but she also told me that when the limo got her back to her brother's home in Lindenhurst that she might catch some sleep instead of driving home during the night on a holiday weekend when lots of drunks were out and the cops were working with extra patrols and DWI checkpoints.

This trial marriage going into 45 years might last.
