Last Friday on August 4th I did the 65-mile round trip to the Northport VA Medical Center. My doctor, Dr. Shirley T., from the East Meadow VA Clinic wants me to do a colonoscopy and I was OK with that. I had one done under great private insurance 25 years ago. So I go out there and a nurse and a doctor grab my "vitals" and scope the recent results of my EKG from East Meadow. I am A-OK to have a VA doctor ram a skinny machine with a camera up my ass and knock my hat off. It's no big deal.

I was told that the medicine I needed to guzzle would be in the mail that day (last Friday). Bland diet on Wednesday, no food on Thursday and great good drinks on Thursday and Friday before dawn that would flush me like Sherman took Atlanta. And then I would go to the VA hospital on Friday morning with my wife (the driver) so that I could be laid out under anesthesia and have people go up my ass with a camera. I couldn't think of a better deal for myself.

On Monday I catch a letter in the mail out of my Friday appointment that my colonoscopy procedure is set in stone. I was told that the "prep meds" I needed would be mailed that day as well.

But my guzzle stuff to catch clean and flushed guts has not arrived in the mail. It might come on Thursday but the mail comes in the afternoon at my house and I'm not fasting all day for a "might come today".

The VA has been great with me and my prescriptions come in the mail like clockwork. My doctor at the VA clinic is a super woman. My U.S.M.C. service in a some bad places catch me VA care that is sensational and gets me medical bills for $0.00 but my first experience at the VA Hospital at Northport ain't a thrill yet.

I'll call in the morning to reschedule or ask what to do. Maybe my "flush stuff" got lost in the mail or maybe the horrors I hear about VA Medical Centers are true. The local VA clinic has been very good to me.

I am rescheduled to 9/29 with an endoscopy tossed in as a bonus. Looks liked I'll be getting "piped" from both ends. What a sweet deal!
